Lately I’ve been hating my phone. I spend so much time on it each day, whether it’s checking my calendar, responding to emails, or mindlessly scrolling and looking at social media for the 5th in the last 10 minutes, I’ve begun to grow a resentment towards it. I didn’t get my own phone until I was in 7th grade, and it was a sliding phone. All my friends and kids my age either had a smartphone, or nothing at all, and here I am, in limbo. I wasn’t that bothered by not having a smartphone, they were still a relatively recent invention and I didn’t have much experience with them at all. I had that phone until my junior year of high school, and then I got a Google Pixel 3. I was pretty captivated by it. By that point, smartphones had established themselves as a staple in the modern world, and up until that point I had been “behind the times.” Getting a smartphone and having access to the internet wherever I went and being able to easily contact my friends and play games and everything like that, was all new to me. Now however, the novelty has begun to wear off. I get annoyed when my phone starts buzzing too much, I hate when I keep opening Instagram over and over even though nothing has changed in the last 5 minutes. My phone has grown to be a nuisance in my life, but I still wouldn’t know what to do without it.
